The Resolution Process
When a prediction market's end date passes, it enters the resolution phase. During this phase, an OddsForge administrator reviews the real-world outcome and submits the result to the OddsForgeV2 smart contract on BNB Smart Chain (BSC).
Resolution is a single on-chain transaction that permanently records the winning outcome. Once resolved, the result is immutable — it cannot be changed or reversed. This ensures complete transparency and trust in the process.
resolveMarket function on the smart contract, specifying the market ID and the winning outcome (Yes or No). The transaction is publicly visible on BscScan for anyone to verify.
What Happens When a Market Resolves
Once a market is resolved, shares are valued as follows:
- Winning shares become worth $1.00 each. If the outcome was "Yes," every Yes share is redeemable for $1.00.
- Losing shares become worth $0.00. They have no redemption value.
Your profit depends on the price you originally paid. For example, if you bought Yes shares at $0.40 each and the market resolves to Yes, you earn $0.60 profit per share (a 150% return on your investment).
Trading is no longer possible after a market resolves. If you hold shares in a resolved market, you can only claim your winnings — you cannot buy or sell.
Resolution Sources
OddsForge resolves markets using credible, publicly verifiable information sources. The specific source depends on the market category:
- Politics: Official government announcements, certified election results, and major news agencies (AP, Reuters).
- Sports: Official league or governing body results (FIFA, NBA, UEFA, etc.).
- Crypto: On-chain data, CoinGecko, CoinMarketCap, or other widely recognized data aggregators.
- Entertainment: Official award ceremony results, verified box office data, or studio announcements.
- Science & Weather: Government agencies (NASA, NOAA) or peer-reviewed publications.
Claiming Your Winnings
After a market resolves in your favor, you need to claim your winnings to receive the payout. Here's how:
- Navigate to your Portfolio page on OddsForge.
- Find the resolved market in your holdings. It will display a "Resolved" badge and show your claimable amount.
- Click the "Claim Winnings" button.
- Confirm the transaction in your wallet (e.g., MetaMask).
- Once the transaction is confirmed on BSC, the funds are deposited directly into your connected wallet.
The claim calls the claimWinnings function on the OddsForgeV2 smart contract. There is no deadline to claim — your winnings remain available on-chain indefinitely.
Edge Cases and Special Situations
While most markets resolve cleanly, certain situations require special handling:
Ambiguous Outcomes
If the real-world outcome is unclear or disputed, the admin team conducts a thorough review before resolution. Markets will not be resolved until there is sufficient clarity to make a definitive determination. In rare cases, resolution may be delayed while awaiting official results.
Voided Markets
In exceptional circumstances, a market may be voided rather than resolved to Yes or No. This can happen when:
- The underlying event is cancelled (e.g., a sporting event that never takes place).
- The market question becomes meaningless due to unforeseen circumstances.
- A critical error in the market setup is discovered.
Early Resolution
Some markets may be resolved before their stated end date if the outcome becomes definitively known. For example, if a market asks "Will Team X win the championship?" and Team X is mathematically eliminated from the competition, the market may be resolved early to No.
Resolution Timeline
OddsForge aims to resolve markets as quickly as possible after the event concludes. Typical resolution times by category:
- Sports: Within hours of the final result.
- Crypto: Within 24 hours of the target date/condition.
- Politics: Once official results are certified (this may take days for elections).
- Entertainment: Within 24 hours of the official announcement.
You will receive a notification when a market you hold shares in has been resolved.
