Yes — You Can Sell Anytime
Absolutely. On OddsForge, you are never locked into a position. You can sell your Yes or No shares at any time before the market resolves, at the current market price. There is no waiting period, no lock-up, and no need to find a buyer — the platform's automated market maker (AMM) provides instant liquidity.
How Selling Works
When you sell shares on OddsForge, your shares are sold back to the AMM (automated market maker) at the current market price. The process is simple:
- Navigate to the market where you hold a position.
- Click Sell on your position.
- Enter the number of shares you want to sell (or sell all).
- Review the estimated proceeds and confirm the transaction.
- Your proceeds (minus the 2% trading fee) are credited to your account instantly.
The entire process happens on-chain in a single transaction — no order matching, no waiting for a counterparty.
Why Sell Early?
There are several strategic reasons to sell before a market resolves:
Lock In Profit
If you bought shares at a low price and the market has moved in your favor, selling lets you realize your gains immediately rather than waiting for the final outcome. This removes the risk that late-breaking information could reverse the market.
Cut Your Losses
If new information suggests the event is less likely to go your way, selling early lets you recover a portion of your investment rather than holding shares that may become worthless at resolution.
Rebalance Your Portfolio
You might want to free up funds to trade in other markets with better opportunities. Selling early gives you flexibility to move capital where you see the most value.
Price Changes Between Buy and Sell
The price of your shares will fluctuate continuously as other traders buy and sell in the same market. Several factors drive price changes:
- New information — News, data releases, or events that change the perceived probability of the outcome.
- Market sentiment — Shifts in trader opinion or momentum.
- Trading volume — Large buys or sells can move the price, especially in thinner markets.
- Time decay — As a market approaches its resolution date, prices tend to converge toward $0 or $1 as the outcome becomes clearer.
Example: Buy Low, Sell High
Here's a concrete example of a profitable early sell:
- You buy: 200 Yes shares at $0.30 each, spending $60 (before fees).
- Price moves up: Positive news breaks, and the Yes price climbs to $0.70.
- You sell: You sell all 200 shares at $0.70, receiving $140 gross.
- Fees: 2% buy fee on $60 = $1.20. 2% sell fee on $140 = $2.80. Total fees = $4.00.
- Net profit: $140 − $60 − $4.00 = $76.00 profit — and you never had to wait for the market to resolve.
Partial Sells
You don't have to sell your entire position at once. OddsForge supports partial sells, allowing you to sell only a portion of your shares while keeping the rest.
This is useful for several strategies:
- Take partial profits — Sell half your position to lock in gains while remaining exposed to further upside.
- Scale out gradually — Sell shares in increments as the price rises, averaging into a better overall exit price.
- Manage risk — Reduce your position size if you become less confident, without exiting entirely.
For example, if you hold 500 Yes shares and the price has doubled from your entry, you could sell 250 shares to recover your initial investment and let the remaining 250 shares ride as "house money" with zero downside risk.
